It seemed like a good idea ....
Again ...

Over the next few weeks I'll be keeping a diary of my second "Pilgrimage",  just in case I forget where I am or who I am, detailing the highs, the lows, the sore feet, the sore heads, the towns I pass through, and the characters I meet along the way.  This time I will be taking the lesser traveled "Portuguese Way" (Caminho Portugues) and will be accompanied by my daughter Sam.

We're all just stories in the end, so I'll try to make it a good one.

Bom Caminho

Arrived today at 12.15 and in total we have walked 320 k's .

The Portuguese is different the the Frances with lots of cobbles and tarmac and consequently a lot harder. Not as organised with much less accommodation and very few pilgrims menus not to mention the majority of walkers are German. I met a lovely guy called Jan who was walking with his mother and son but a lot were insular and felt that taking their turn waiting for coffee...

Ok so yesterday we walked from Caldas de Reis to Padron 22ks no problems. We talked on the way to a very overweight German girl who was complaining how hard she was finding the Camino. At every coffee stop ( 4 or 5 ) she sat with a beer and a empada ( pie ) and at one stop Sam had a plate of croquettes and as we left she scoffed the 3 that Sam had left. Well I'm sorry but cause and effect!

We arrived in Padron a typical Spanish town of...

Rest day in our nice hotel. We both decided to have a leg massage however it turned out to be legs in a sink of water jets and then covered in gel like substance that either was freezing or burning- hard to decide which ! Belted back to our rooms to wash it off.

Funny town. Bit of scenic old but a lot of crap modern Spanish and weather has turned very cold so our rest day was a bit of a disappointment-a bit like the road kill dinner...

Friday 15 September 2017

Last night we were pretty much both finished and thinking of quitting. We were in Pontavedra a lovely town and too tired even for food . Next place 22ks " sorry dad I can't do it ". We went to bed at 8pm and slept until 7am. Left at 7.30 in the dark and killed it. The ability of the human body to recover never fails to amaze me !

We have had a great walk into Caldas de Reis a lovely old spa town. The grapes are being picked and the...

Sorry to miss a day but the road was long with mountains in our way but we climbed a step every day !

Yesterday from Porrino to Arcade was our hardest day. 28 K's of unrelenting steep climbs before we arrived shattered in the late afternoon. Foxy and the leprechaun have left us this morning but not before getting Sam and I completely puddled last night and thankfully we can now have a few days of sobriety.

The two of us left at...

Wednesday 13 September 2017

So Foxy arrived last night at 9.20 and the 4 of us had food but mainly drink. The fecking Irishman had to leave at 10pm as they lock the doors of the Auberge, then Sam went at 11pm and we got back at 1 am

As Foxy's car was here we decided to ditch unwanted items including my rain gear that I'd never needed. Obviously it poured with rain all day and I walked 24ks soaked to the skin.

Very funny day and the best quote from the F...

Monday 11 September 2017

Leaving this morning I handed my keys in then decided I needed the toilet. One of the rooms had a door open and vacated so in popped in. As I sat there I suddenly noticed toiletries on the shelf and suddenly realised the woman had only gone for breakfast. How embarrassing would that have been ! Fortunately I got out before she returned.

Walked through Valenca on one side of the huge Minho river into Tui in Spain and in the middle of...

Just some of the people we've met.

The lady from Montana who with her friend decided to do a Camino. After 2 days her friend decided she couldn't do it and wanted her to go home with her. When she said she wanted to continue her friend fell out with her and left with all her pre booked accommodation and air tickets.  Don't know what happened to her.

Jan from Germany walking with his son and 78 year old mother. He phoned me...

Sunday 10 September 2017

Started the day with Sam locked in the toilet for over 30 minutes. Fortunately we were sharing a room so the banging and cries for help were heard.

Yesterday was an incredible fiesta in Ponte da Lima. It took nearly 3 hours for the drum bands , floats and hundreds of dancers to pass and there were probably 50000 people in the streets. Sick as a dog when we got back either food poisoning or sunstroke so off in a minute with plenty of...
